Crisis Center of Tampa Bay Launches Hotline for Veterans (1-844-MYFLVET)

The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay has launched a new toll-free hotline in conjunction with the Florida Department of Veteran Affairs (FDVA) to assist Tampa Bay area veterans. The new initiative is called the Florida Veterans Support Line. The Tampa Bay area has one of the largest veteran populations in the nation. In recent years, there has been an increased demand for behavioral health and other intensive services in Florida to provide the assistance that veterans need. By calling 1-844-MYFLVET (693-5838), veterans in the 5 county area of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk and Manatee counties will speak with a peer, a fellow veteran who has experienced the difficulty of transitioning from military to civilian life. The volunteers and staff answering the Florida Veterans Support Line have been trained to assess the veteran’s need and will be able to provide immediate emotional support; and referrals to VA-funded services and hundreds of other community-based programs. The Florida Veterans Support Line will be staffed by veterans from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday-Friday. After hours and on weekends, calls will be answered by crisis specialists in the Crisis Center’s 2-1-1 call center. Back to Top

Lazydays Salutes Military Heroes during “Military Appreciation” Month

Lazydays, the RV Authority, has announced it will launch a “Military Appreciation” fundraiser in both the Tampa and Tucson locations. The month-long November initiative will support distinct military charities in each city, both designed to provide assistance to families of U.S. service men and women who have been injured in the line of duty. In addition to the fundraiser, there will be special savings for all Lazydays customers and discounts for all active and veteran military throughout the month. In Tampa, the funds raised will benefit Operation Helping Hand (Op HH), a local non-profit organization founded in 2004 to provide assistance and support wounded and injured active duty military being treated at the James A. Haley VA Hospital, and their families. Active duty military are transferred from Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda National Naval Medical Center or from one of many other military medical centers to the Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa. They arrive with injuries such as blindness, amputations, blast injuries, burns, brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. Funds will be raised and donated in two ways:

$50 for every RV sold in the month of November will go directly to the local charities in each city
$1 per each new fan (like) on Facebook (up to $2000) will be donated and divided between both charities

In addition to the fundraising campaign, Lazydays will also offer special pricing discounts to active and veteran military throughout the month of November. The discounts include: 20% off service labor and parts (Tampa and Tucson), 50% off campsite at Lazydays Campground in Tampa and 20% off Lazydays Store purchases (Tampa and Tucson). All Lazydays customers will also enjoy special savings throughout the month of November in honor of Military Appreciation Month. The Joint…the chiropractic place^® Comes to South Tampa Palma Ceia

The Joint…the chiropractic place® has announced a new clinic will open at 3409 West Bay to Bay Blvd., Unit B, Tampa, FL 33629. A grand opening event with ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Friday, Nov. 14. Free adjustments will be available for new patients on Nov. 14 and 15 from 10:00 a.m. to close on both days. Norwegian Sun replaces Norwegian Dawn, as Norwegian’s third home ported ship at Port Tampa Bay. The 1936-passenger Norwegian Sun is sailing a series of seven-day Western Caribbean cruises with stops in Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; along with two relaxing days at sea. Saint Leo University Celebrates 125th Anniversary during Founder's Week November 10 - 14

This year marks a major milestone for Saint Leo University. It was 125 years ago that the university was founded. In 1889, monks from Maryhelp Abbey in North Carolina received 36 acres on Lake Jovita in San Antonio, FL, to found an abbey and a Benedictine college. Earlier that same year, Benedictine nuns founded Holy Name Convent and Academy. During Founders Week, November 10 to 14, Saint Leo University will commemorate its 125^th anniversary by thanking the monks, sisters, Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, business partners, and community for their valuable contributions. Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Returns to Private Practice, Joins Carlton Fields Jorden Burt

Carlton Fields Jorden Burt welcomes John “Jack” Clabby to the firm as Of Counsel in Tampa. He practices in the Business Litigation section of the firm’s National Trial Practice Group.

Clabby concentrates his practice on defending companies, executives, and directors in shareholder class actions and derivative suits, government investigations, and other high-stakes litigation alleging corporate and commercial wrongdoing. He joins the firm after four years at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey where he investigated and prosecuted white collar crimes, including financial, mortgage, and tax fraud. As a national security AUSA, Clabby prosecuted violations of the U.S. export-control laws and defense procurement fraud, on matters involving high-technology military hardware. Clabby also served as the sole Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (“CHIP”) prosecutor for Southern New Jersey, where he advised other prosecutors on investigative techniques for computers, websites, and other electronic evidence. Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Clabby was a litigation associate at Williams & Connolly, LLP in Washington, D.C. where he represented companies and executives in securities litigation, high-dollar contract disputes, and government investigations. He worked on headline matters impacting the mortgage industry, pharmaceutical companies, and government contractors. Stephanie E. Ambs Joins Carlton Fields Jorden Burt’s National Trial Practice, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Section Carlton Fields Jorden Burt is pleased to announce that Stephanie E. Ambs joined the firm in Tampa as an associate. She practices in the firm’s National Trial Practice, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Section. Ambs’ practice includes complex commercial and bankruptcy litigation. She represents creditors, debtors, and equity interests in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, defendants and plaintiffs in commercial and insolvency litigation in state and federal court, and assignees and creditors in state court proceedings. Previously she was an associate at Smith Hulsey & Busey in Jacksonville, Florida. In the summer of 2010 she served as a judicial extern to Judges Arthur B. Briskman and Karen S. Jennemann in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida. Ambs earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. While in law school she was a member of the Florida Journal of International Law and she served as a teaching assistant for the course “Legal Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy.” She received her B.A., cum laude, from the University of Florida.
