The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce urges legislators against singling out the University of South Florida for massive cuts.  “I firmly believe that the Chamber was created over 126 years ago to serve as the voice for the business community. In the spirit of protecting the hard work of those who have served before us and doing what is right, it is important that we stand firm in support of the University of South Florida,” said Bob Rohrlack, president and CEO of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. “The USF system has an annual economic impact of $3.7 billion dollars and is an integral part of our local economy.  To ask the University of South Florida to absorb a $128 million dollar budget reduction, including a 60 percent reduction in its state appropriation for academic affairs is misguided, unwise and unjust at best and will have disastrous consequences.  There is no rationale for why USF is being targeted to bear a greater burden than any other state university, but as a significant economic driver in our community – we cannot afford to sit back idly and watch this economic train wreck take place.” For more information, please click here.
