The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce joined fifty of the country’s largest metropolitan regional chambers of commerce in a letter urging congress to address the impending insolvency of the federal Highway Trust Fund. Congress will consider reauthorization of the MAP-21 long-term highway authorization over the coming months and business groups nationwide want a solution to the federal funding shortfall. They also want congress to empower metropolitan regions to advance locally-driven innovative solutions to transportation challenges. “Transportation has been identified as a key issue for our members and is an integral part of our three-year strategic plan as evidenced by our establishment of a standing transportation committee,” says Bob Rohrlack, president and CEO of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Congress. “Just as we are tackling transportation on the local level, it’s imperative that our members of Congress address the issue on the federal level. We need a sustainable source of funding to grow jobs and keep the country moving.” Click here to read the metro chambers letter to congress about transportation funding.
