Tampa, FL - The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce hosted Governor Rick Scott's visit with local business leaders on Thursday, January 9. Over 50 business leaders discussed business issues with the Governor, covering topics such as transportation, Medicaid expansion, and flood insurance. Governor Scott's visit coincided with the release of the Chamber's 2014 State Legislative Agenda, available here

Feedback from the participants included:

“Governor Scott called the Chamber to convene the business community and was open to listening to our legislative agenda.  The business leaders in attendance had the opportunity to speak with the Governor on a variety of issues – including those we identified as priorities for this year’s legislative session.  As the Governor suggested, we are already in the process of scheduling meetings with our legislative delegation to make sure that they are aware of the Chamber’s priorities.”

“There was great engagement on both sides, from the business leaders and Governor Scott.  It is clear that he understands the importance of public-private partnerships.”

-Chamber Public Policy Co-Chair Lee Nelson, Partner, Shutts & Bowen LLP

“It was great to have the Governor really listening to the Chamber and for us to know the areas on which we agree and disagree and to identify the areas on which we can make progress.”

-Chamber Board Member Maryann Ferenc, Proprietor, Mise en Place, Inc.

“The Governor’s visit is one great example of the important role the Chamber plays in fulfilling our mission to serve our members and enhance our community by building business success.  The Governor approaching us to convene the group of business leaders show that what we are doing is important and recognized throughout the state.  The variety of issues our business leaders discussed with Governor and his responses displayed that we are on the right track with respect to priorities for our community and our state.”
