In alignment with the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce’s Vision 2026 plan, local candidate interviews were conducted and filmed to inform voters on where candidates stand on issues important to the Tampa Bay business community.  Each candidate for the 2018 Hillsborough County Commission race who qualified with the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections office received an invitation to participate.

Participating candidates for the General Election interview videos include:

  • Angela Birdsong, Democrat Candidate for District 2
  • Joe Kotvas, NPA Candidate for District 5
  • Kimberly Overman, Democrat Candidate for District 7

The following candidates did not respond to attempts to schedule an interview for the General Election videos: Andrew Davis, Stacy White, Mariella Smith, Victor Crist, Kim O’Connor, and Todd Marks. The following candidate declined the invitation to participate in the General Election video: Ken Hagan.

The candidate interviews covered the Hillsborough County Public School’s one-half cent sales tax referendum and All for Transportation’s one cent sales tax referendum proposals, the impact of the proposed homestead exemption on the County’s budget, their view on home rule, merging of the MPOs, and the affordable housing crisis facing Hillsborough County.

The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce is non-partisan and does not endorse candidates. The videos were edited for production quality only and candidates’ responses were not altered. To view the videos, please visit https://www.tampachamber.com/Business-Advocacy/Election-Candidate-interviews.aspx
